Iriški Venac Tunnel – Engineering at Its Finest

The Iriški Venac Tunnel is the crown jewel of the Fruška Gora Corridor and a key part of the Ruma–Novi Sad expressway. Once completed, it will be the longest tunnel in Serbia, stretching 3.5 km through the Fruška Gora mountain.

Constructed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) and in accordance with the latest European standards, the project faces challenging geological and hydrogeological conditions, including fractured rock masses and high groundwater inflows — over 2,000 liters per minute in some zones.

Main features of the Project:

  • Twin tubes with separate traffic directions
  • Excavation cross-sections between 92–112 m²
  • Advanced monitoring and drainage systems
  • Strict environmental protection measures within Fruška Gora National Park

This visit provides a first hand look at cutting-edge tunnelling technology and the delicate balance between infrastructure and environmental conservation.
